Sabina Islam Rahaman, Daughter of Md. Nurul Islam. Post World Music Day, I had come across an inborn musician from our very own state of Assam.

At times, we are so much into knowing about what is happening in and around the world. This misguides us and we miss out on the fact, that there are people to be recognized from our very own land. The rock and pop culture enlightens us from our hair tip to toe nails. What actually keeps us grounded, is the Indian Classical Music in all its forms.
Born and brought up in a family fond of music. Her parents resided in Guwahati city of Assam. At a very young age of 5-years, she was showing exceptional talent in music. Therefore, her father started giving her training. At the young age of 10-years, she won the 1st in All Assam Music Competition held in Guwahati.
Later in her 20’s, she became a scholar of ITC Sangeet Research Academy,Kolkata. It is the one and only prestigious institute of India for Hindustan Classical Music. She developed her music in ITC for 5 years. She came under the tutelage of Vidushi Subhra Guha of ITCSRA. Sabina Islam continued to learn from her Guruma since then, for 12-years living with her in a true Guru Shishya Parampara. She continues her learning from her Guruma still today. Her other Gurus are Pt.Sunil Bose,Pt Vijay Kichlu. She is a B high artist of AIR.
Not only music, she simultaneously maintained her educational career as well.

- “Sangeet Visharad” from Bhatkhande Sangeet Vidyapeeth in 1988.
Major Recitals of Sabina Islam
Sabina Islam is regularly invited by various important platforms in Kolkata to give her recital. Besides Guwahati and other places of West Bengal, Sabina has also performed in other major cities of India like Bangalore, Dhanbad, Vadodra, Amritsar & Delhi . She has also performed in the various cities of the USA & Bangladesh.
Sabina Islam was appreciated as having a golden voice by the President of India His Honourable Mr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam for her singing in an incident on National Aeronautical Seminar at Kolkata. Late Pandit Kishan Maharajji,Pt.Rajan Sajan Misraji also highly appreciated her music .

1.In 1989 she participated in the All India National Integration Camp & Workshop, Vidyanagar, Bangalore.
2.In 1991, Sabina represented Assam State in the category of Light Music, vocal in All India Inter College Youth Festival(ICYF) ”Scolomin Saturnalia” organized by Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad Bihar.
3.In 2003-04 she won the prestigious “Young Artist Award” under EZCC, together with a Gold medal offered by the Ministry of Tourism & Culture, Govt.of India. The award was given by the then Governor of West Bengal Mr.Viren J.Shah.
4.In 2005 Sabina also obtained the prestigious Jnana Pravaha Scholarship for being an extremely promising and budding young musician of West Bengal state. She obtained grade A.
5.In 2006 Sabina enthralled almost 3000 audience at Gulabbari of Shri Harsh Vardhan Neotia, by giving her recital.
6.In 2007 Sabina was invited to give her recital for the most prestigious Sangeet Natak Academy.
7.Recently, Sabina was invited to sing in the 103rd Shastriya Sangeet Sammelan at Amritsar.
8.From 2006 Sabina has been visiting USA regularly. She was invited to the World Music Festival”Navaratri” in Wesleyan University,Connecticut. Sabina solely represented North Indian Classical Music. She has performed at The Arch,New York, Chicago,New Jersey also. She imparts education of Indian Classical vocal in NYC under AAICM ( American Academy of Indian Classical Music).
9.In 2009 she recently performed in the prestigious platform of Indo Occidental Symbiosis at G.D.Birla Sabhaghar, Kolkata and Sangeet Piyasi organised by Pt Samar Saha enthralled the audience by giving her brilliant performance.
10.In June 2009, Sabina gave her outstanding performance at Chhandayan NY, Albany, Rochester and Buffalo.
11.Sabina performed in The Attic Organisation of Delhi in October 2009.
12.On March 2010, Sabina went to Bangladesh for imparting education on classical music and also gave her brilliant recital.
Sabina has a versatile voice. She also excels as a Thumri, Dadra, Kajri singer in the perfect “Poorav ang” of Banaras. She also sings Tappa and other light classical forms like Ghazal, Bhajan,modern songs etc. Her tuneful voice with perfect “aakar” provides an impressive, impeccable blend of learning with perfect raagdari and gaikee on one side and aesthetics on the other.
