Google DeepMind: We all have grown up watching movies, TV shows where we have seen things like machines, robots etc that can think on their own and make any decision in the real time.

Well, DeepMind a subsidiary of internet giant Google has been developing an AI (Artificial Intelligence) that can “Imagine” like us.

It can predict, analyze any sort of scenario like a human being and is capable of taking appropriate actions, thus making it possible for the machines to review their decisions before implementing it.

About DeepMind

Deepmind

DeepMind was a British artificial intelligence company founded in the year 2010 and later it was acquired by Google in 2014. According to a report published in the Wired, “Its attempt to create algorithms that simulate the distinctly human ability to construct a plan could eventually help to produce software and hardware capable of solving complex tasks more efficiently”.

DeepMind got its taste of success in AI after an AI named ‘AlphaGo‘ created by the company had beaten a number of humans in the tricky board game ‘Go’. But it had limitations, AlphaGo was governed by a set of rules and the outcomes were also predictable.

In the same report, a researcher from DeepMind said,”The real world is complex, rules are not so clearly defined and unpredictable problems often arise. Even for the most intelligent agents, imagining in these complex environments is a long and costly process”.

According to the researcher, “With the help of ‘imagination-augmented agents’ — a neural network that learns to extract information that might be useful for future decisions — an AI agent can learn different strategies to construct plans, choosing from a broad spectrum of strategies”.

DeepMind said,” They have tested the architectures involved in it on multiple tasks which also includes the puzzle game ‘Sokoban’ along with a spaceship navigation game.

After the test was over, it was seen that the imagination-augmented agents did much better compare to the imagination-less baselines and the advantage of the previous was that they can do very well with very less experience and are pretty much able to deal as well as eliminate the imperfections.

It looks like the future isn’t yet to come, it’s already here only.
