Cumin a.k.a. Jeera is proved by the researchers to decrease obesity. Wait, what? Jeera? Yes, jeera. The researchers, using data prepared by the Global Burden of Disease collaborative for 2000 and 2013, estimated that by 2025, some 268 million children, aged between five and 17 years, may be overweight.

By 2025, India will have over 17 million obese children and stand second among 184 countries where the number of obese children is concerned, says a study published in Paediatric Obesity, an international journal.

What does research say??

University of Medical Sciences in Iran made a research of 88 obese women, who were divided into two groups. Women from both groups ate the same amount of food and had a daily intake reduced by 500 calories. But only the first group was given the mixture of 5 ounces of yogurt and a teaspoon of jeera. This group had lost an average three more pounds in comparison to the other, non-cumin group.

Other benefits in the research were lowered levels of harmful blood fats, such as cholesterol and triglycerides, by 20 percent. Moreover, women from the cumin group reduced the risk of heart disease and obesity too.
